چکیده
Smart Textiles In article number 2210769, Yunlu Pan, Lu Shao, and co-workers propose, a fouling-proof cooling (FP-Cool) fabric that integrates with oil/water-repellent excellent passive capacities by constructing superoleophobic Janus channels on heat conductive enhanced superomniphobic fabric. The FP-Cool preserves 40% higher thermal conductivity over 50% evaporation rate than conventional cotton fabrics. keeps its anti-fouling sweat-wicking/evaporation properties even after 3000 cycles of abrasion test.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).
By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.
متن کاملHow to measure thermal effects of personal cooling systems: human, thermal manikin and human simulator study.
Thermal effects, such as cooling power and thermophysiological responses initiated upon application of a personal cooling system, can be assessed with (i) humans, (ii) a thermal manikin and (iii) a thermophysiological human simulator. In order to compare these methods, a cooling shirt (mild cooling) and an ice vest (strong cooling) were measured using human participants and a thermal manikin. U...
متن کاملHybrid boron nitride-natural fiber composites for enhanced thermal conductivity
Thermal conductivity was dramatically increased after adding natural fiber into hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)/epoxy composites. Although natural fiber does not show high-thermal conductivity itself, this study found that the synergy of natural fiber with hBN could significantly improve thermal conductivity, compared with that solely using hBN. A design of mixtures approach using constant fibers...
متن کاملForce and Thermal Sensing with a Fabric-based Skin
We present a novel fabric-based multimodal tactile sensing skin with three sensing modalities: force, actively heated temperature sensors to measure heat transfer and passive, unheated temperature sensors. In our evaluation, the skin recognized two materials during pressing and sliding tasks. Our method thermally distinguished pine wood from aluminum after detecting the contact force. With a su...
